Matthew 5:17-18--Follow up to Jesus last statement on the cross: "It is finished!"; Everything is spiritual to God, including the New Covenant; Jews and Gentiles are one spiritually
Below (at the end of this post) are all the posts for the series regarding Jesus’ last statement—It is finished!—on the cross.
I have referred to Matthew 5:17-18 in numerous posts including in this series of posts, below. Now I want to follow up.
Matthew 5:17-18:
17 “Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill.
18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter (tittle) or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished!
[Please note verse 17, states that He came to fulfill. Fulfill what? You will see the answer (as you did in my series) below in John 19 (and numerous other verses). He came to fulfill the destruction of the Old Covenant, which is spiritual; and the Old Covenant is not spiritual. Now, look at my next paragraph. - JRD]
[After saying “Truly I say to you”, verse 18 begins with the word “until.” Until what? Until heaven and earth pass away…What is heaven and earth? It is the Jewish age of the law under the Old Covenant. Let me repeat that: heaven and earth is the Jewish age of the law under the Old Covenant. So, heaven and earth had to pass away (otherwise the smallest letter or stroke of a letter under the law would continue). Do you see this clearly? Jesus could not fulfill the Scriptures (verse 17) until verse 18 occurred: heaven and earth had to pass away, which is the Old Covenant that the Jewish age of the law was under. He fulfilled everything (all the Scriptures) by His last act of destroying the Old Covenant. - JRD]
John 19:25-30:
23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made four parts: a part to each soldier, and the tunic also; but the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece. 24 So they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be.” This happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “They divided My garments among themselves, and they cast lots for My clothing.” Therefore the soldiers did these things.
25 Now beside the cross of Jesus stood His mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 So when Jesus saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” 27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own household.
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled, said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. 30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.
[Please note that verse 28 states that “all things had already been accomplished, in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled. Jesus, therefore, had to do one more act to after accomplishing everything to fulfill. What was fulfilled and what did He do? Jesus on the cross answers the foregoing question. He said: “I am thirsty. (verse 28) He obviously was not thirsty because of the need for water because he was dying. Notice the sour wine was standing there and they put a sponge full of the sour wine to His mouth. (verse 29). What is sour wine? It represents the Old Covenant. Verse 30: after receiving the sour wine, He said “It is finished!” (Sweet wine represents the New Covenant.) - JRD]
WHEN ALL THESE THINGS OCCURRED AND HE THEN SAID “IT IS FINISHED!”, HE FULLFILLED THE SCRIPTURES AND THE OLD COVENANT WAS DESTROYED AND THE NEW COVENANT APPLIED TO EVERYONE.
I also often include the below Scriptures. After Jesus destroyed the Old Covenant, the Jews in Jerusalem (not all because some listened to Jesus and went up into the mountains) were destroyed by the siege and destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. Why did the destruction occur? Because for 70 years after Jesus destroyed the Old Covenant, they remained under the Jewish age of the law and the Old Covenant. So, God allowed (caused?) them to be destroyed. And, Jesus warned the Jews in Jerusalem that they were going to be destroyed—surrounded and destroyed by an army. SEE the warning by Jesus in Matthew 24:15-20; Mark 13:14-18; Luke 21:20-24, about their destruction. General Titus and his army destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD.
[To God everything is spiritual, period! Only the spiritual matters to Him. Jews and Gentiles are one spiritually to God. We can say whatever we want to on a secular or soulish (a word that must be made up) basis but we cannot overcome the fact that God SEES EVERYTHING FROM A SPIRITUAL BASIS. And Jews and Gentiles are one—spiritually. If a Jew is not a spiritual Jew, he is not a Jew to God. See Scriptures below. I hear no one saying this except for the pastors and teachers I follow. - JRD]
Here are the Scriptures I referred to:
Ephesians 2:14-16:
14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,15 by abolishing in His flesh the hostility, which is the Law composed of commandments expressed in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two one new person, in this way establishing peace; 16 and that He might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the hostility.
[Both groups: Jews and Gentiles. - JRD]
Romans 10:12:
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;
[Everything is spiritual to God. This Scripture is apparently ignored. SEE the next verse! - JRD]
Romans 2:29:
29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from people, but from God.
[Notice who is a Jew according to God. A Jew to God is one inwardly by the Holy Spirit (and NOT under the Old Covenant—SEE False Doctrine below). This Scripture is apparently ignored. We can ignore God all we want but God states who is a Jew to Him through Paul. - JRD]
Revelation 2:9:
9 ‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich), and the slander [blasphemia] by those who say they are Jews, and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.
Blasphemia in Greek means: Vilification (especially against God):—blasphemy, evil speaking, railing.
[Read the above carefully. Then re-read Romans 2:9, again! This Scripture is apparently ignored, which was spoken by Jesus through the angel to John. Notice in the first part of the verse He is speaking the the church in Asia, but then He speaks to everyone—”those”. - JRD]
Galatians 4:21-31:
21 Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the Law? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and one by the free woman. 23 But the son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.
24 This is speaking allegorically, for these women are two covenants: one coming from Mount Sinai giving birth to children who are to be slaves; she is Hagar. 25 Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is enslaved with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother. 27 For it is written:
[Notice the reference to two covenants in verse 24. - JRD]
“Rejoice, infertile one, you who do not give birth;
Break forth and shout, you who are not in labor;
For the children of the desolate one are more numerous
Than those of the one who has a husband.”
28 And you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29 But as at that time the son who was born according to the flesh persecuted the one who was born according to the Spirit, so it is even now.
[Children of “promise” from God under the New Covenant. The promiose is spiritual from God. - JRD]
30 But what does the Scripture say?
“Drive out the slave woman and her son,
For the son of the slave woman shall not be an heir with the son of the free woman.”
31 So then, brothers and sisters, we are not children of a slave woman, but of the free woman.
Ephesians 2:14-22:
14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the hostility, which is the Law composed of commandments expressed in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two one new person, in this way establishing peace;
16 and that He might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the hostility.
17 And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near;
18 for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.
19 So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

False Doctrine—Dispensationalism
The first paragraphs of the link:
Dispensationalism is a theological framework for interpreting the Bible which maintains that history is divided into multiple ages called "dispensations" in which God interacts with his chosen people in different ways.[1]: 19 It is often distinguished from covenant theology.[2][3] These are two competing frameworks of biblical theology that attempt to explain overall continuity in the Bible. Coining of the term "dispensationalism" has been attributed to Philip Mauro, a critic of the system's teachings, in his 1928 book The Gospel of the Kingdom.[4][5]
Dispensationalists use a literal interpretation of the Bible and believe that divine revelation unfolds throughout the Bible. They believe that there is a distinction between Israel and the Church, and that Christians are not bound by Mosaic law. They maintain beliefs in premillennialism, Christian Zionism, and a rapture of the Church that will happen before the Second Coming of Christ, generally seen as happening before a period of tribulation.[6]
Dispensationalism was systematized and promoted by John Nelson Darby and the Plymouth Brethren in the mid-19th century.[7]: 67 It began its spread in the United States during the late 19th century through the efforts of evangelists such as James Inglis, James Hall Brookes and Dwight L. Moody, the programs of the Niagara Bible Conference, and the establishment of Bible institutes. With the dawn of the 20th century, Cyrus Scofield introduced the Scofield Reference Bible, which crystalized dispensationalism in the United States.
Dispensationalism has become popular within American evangelicalism. It is commonly found in nondenominational Bible churches, as well as Baptist, Pentecostal, and Charismatic groups.[8][9] Protestant denominations that embrace covenant theology tend to reject dispensationalism. According to the system's critics, most theologians acknowledge that there is no specific sequence of end-times events defined in the Bible. The Scofield Bible has been called "the most dangerous heresy currently to be found within Christian circles".[7]: 13
[Jews and Gentiles are one spiritually to God. Two dispensations DO NOT exist. One dispensation exists for Jews and Gentiles after Jesus said: It is finished!- One Covenant for all: the New Covenant. SEE the entire series below. JRD]
